SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (2011) “Top 14 Perform” Review

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (2011) “Top 14 Perform” Season 8 Episode 12 – And we’re back for an all new episode of So You Think You Can Dance with the top 14 performances.

This week there are two new guest judges: Carmen Electra and Travis Wall. But let’s not wait another second and get right to discussing the performances.

Top 7 Guys
Choreographer: Justin Giles
Song: “Prague” by Damien Rice
Thoughts: That was ridiculously cool! I mean the 7 stages of grief was such an interesting concept to use for a dance, I think Justin Giles made a big impression for his first choreography on So You Think You Can Dance.

Melanie & Marko
Style: Jazz
Choreographer: Ray Leeper
Song: “Americano” by Lady Gaga
Thoughts: Both Melanie and Marko were amazing as always, but I have to say I didn’t love the routine. I don’t know why, but it just didn’t get me excited.

Sasha & Alexander
Style: Hip Hop
Choreographer: Shaun Evaristo
Song: “To The Moon” by Miguel
Thoughts: To be honest, this was a little boring to me. It was just ok, nothing exciting. I agree with the judges on that one, there wasn’t really a connection between the two.

Jordan & Tadd
Style: Smooth Waltz
Choreographer: Toni Redpath
Song: “Nocturne” by Secret Garden
Thoughts: I wasn’t too sure about this Smooth Waltz performance, but I really enjoyed it. The smoke and costume and the way Jordan and Tadd moved on the stage, it was beautiful.

Clarice & Jess
Style: Contemporary
Choreographer: Justin Giles
Song: “Light Through The Branches” by Celeste Lear
Thoughts: Another extremely cool routine by Justin Giles. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a contemporary performance quite like this and I loved it.

Ashley & Chris
Style: Salsa
Choreographer: Liz Lira
Song: “Mambo Beat” by Tito Puente
Thoughts: This was another boring performance for me. Ashley and Chris felt a bit disconnected and uncomfortable to me. There wasn’t any salsa hotness unfortunately.

Ryan & Ricky
Style: Jazz
Choreographer: Chucky Klapow
Song: “Fashion” by David Bowie
Thoughts: I loved that routine! I loved the awkward movements, the costumes and the characters themselves were awesome. My favorite of the night.

Caitlynn & Mitchell
Style: Contemporary
Choreographer: Mandy Moore
Song: “To Love You More” by Celine Dion
Thoughts: That was grandiose! Although I didn’t love it as much as the judges did, it’s my second favorite performance of the night.

Top 7 Girls
Style: Jazz
Choreographer: Ray Leeper
Song: “My Discarded Men” by Eartha Kitt with Bronski Beat
Thoughts: That was a cool, sexy routine by the top 7 girls and a great way to end the show.

That’s it for tonight. My favorites of the night were the two group numbers, Ryan & Ricky and Caitlynn & Mitchell.

As for my bottom three this week it would have to be Sasha & Alexander, Ashley & Chris, and since I have to pick a third one, I guess it would have to be Jordan & Tadd.

We’ll find out who gets eliminated tonight, but until then, I’d love to know who you would put in the bottom three this week. As always you can share your thoughts in the comments section below.
