Darren Criss (Blaine) and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) will be full-time series regulars on Fox’s GLEE in the upcoming third season! However, Fox unfortunately has turned down the option to pick up Chord Overstreet (Sam) as a series regular. He apparently knew about this already when he issued a tweet late Friday, saying “It’s been a good year. Too bad it’s over. Time for summer and starting fresh.” According to TVLine.com, Overstreet may still return as a guest star.

Two weeks ago, series creator Ryan Murphy surprised people when he told Ryan Seacrest that many of the show’s primary characters would graduate from high school by the end of season 3. Murphy told TVLine.com that Glee is about new beginnings and finding/expressing your own identity. He stated, “Do we really want to have an eight-year [high school] senior? The only way somebody could stay on the show is if they flunk, and that is always a possibility. I think Brittany is pulling straight Fs.”

What a bummer for Overstreet! Who would have been your choice to go?
