ROYAL PAINS “Traffic” Advance Review

Royal Pains

ROYAL PAINS “Traffic” Season 3 Episode 1 – For the past two summers it hasn’t felt like summer to me until Royal Pains has made its way back on to my TV screen. So it was with a sigh of the utmost happiness that I popped in the DVD for the season premiere. As we saw at the end of last season, things were in quite a tizzy for most everyone in and around Hank Med.

I was wondering how long it would take, but it looks like we are finally in a new summer on the show. It took two seasons to get through Hank’s fist summer in the Hamptons and this episode starts out after everyone has made it through the long winter and is getting ready to start a whole new summer.

The boys were kicked out of Boris’ place and their new living arrangements are far from ideal. Jill comes back from Uruguay with some “big news” which Evan is afraid might be “big, bad news”. Obviously I can’t say either way (um, hello, spoilers), but I can tell you that it sure as heck-fire surprised me.

Meanwhile, Boris is still going to become a daddy but he’s going about fatherhood in a strange (if completely Boris-like) way. Evan is still with Paige but isn’t seeing her as much as he’d like and is nervous about how their relationship is going.

Finally there’s Divya, who stayed the winter in the Hamptons. She worked with Hank treating patients and though things are on the mend between her and her parents, she is given a jaw-dropping ultimatum that is going to change things in a big way for her.

Overall this episode nicely tied up all the loose ends that were left hanging at the end of last season while still giving us all the great stuff we’ve come to love from the show
– brotherly love, interesting medical cases, a little romance here and there..oh and a scene with a shirtless Hank.

And really, what more can you ask of a season premiere than that?

My favorite (non-spoilery) bits…

Evan using the word “incentivizing”

Evan referring to his “dangling carrot” (No, it’s not as bad as it sounds, but it still made me giggle)

Hank using Evan to apply another awesome MacGyveristic piece of first aid.

Hank getting a well-deserved ovation. About time.

“Which reminds me, your father called from prison.”
“That’s a fun segue.”

Hank showing off some awesome juggling skills.

“You know, you’re really killing me here, Hank.”
“Quite the contrary.”

Totally predicting yet another woman fainting into Hank’s arms, but that didn’t make it any less exciting.

“I’m not much of a gambler when it comes to arterial blockage.”

Hank admitting to someone that he is happier than he’s ever been. Aw, that made *me* happy.

“Dude we really gotta find yet another free mansion to live in.”
“Yeah, I’ll get right on that.”

Hank describing Evan and Paige as an “annoyingly and disgustingly perfect” couple.

Cracking up at Hank and Divya making Evan dirty (believe me, it will make sense when you see it).

The season 3 premiere of Royal Pains airs tonight (Wednesday, June 29) on USA Network at 9/8c. Once the episode has aired, come back up and let me know what you think. I’d love to hear from you!
