SUITS Set Visit and Photos

SUITS - Gabriel Macht -- "Blogger Set Visit" -- Photo by: Christos Kalohoridis/USA Network

Earlier this month, I was invited by the folks at USA Network to visit the set of their new show, Suits. The new series, which premiered last week, shares the same building as USA’s other hit series, Covert Affairs. Visiting both sets was as easy as walking across one (extremely large) hallway and you can check out my article and pictures from the set of Covert Affairs here.

You can also check out my article and pictures from USA’s other new show Necessary Roughness here, which premieres this Wednesday, June 29 at 10/9c.

Here is some info on Suits from USA:

Even the best lawyer in New York City can use some help.

While running from a drug deal gone bad, Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), a brilliant young college-dropout, slips into a job interview with one of New York City’s best legal closers, Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht). Tired of cookie-cutter law school grads, Harvey takes a gamble by hiring Mike on the spot after he recognizes his raw talent and photographic memory.

Mike and Harvey are a winning team. Even though Mike is a genius, he still has a lot to learn about law. And while Harvey may seem like an emotionless, cold-blooded shark, Mike’s sympathy and concern for their cases and clients will help remind Harvey why he went into law in the first place. Mike’s other allies in the office include the firm’s best paralegal Rachel (Meghan Markle) and Harvey’s no-nonsense assistant Donna (Sarah Rafferty) to help him serve justice.

Proving to be an irrepressible duo and invaluable to the practice, Mike and Harvey must keep their secret from everyone including managing partner Jessica (Gina Torres) and Harvey’s arch nemesis Louis (Rick Hoffman), who seems intent on making Mike’s life as difficult as possible.

The difference between the Suits set and the Covert Affairs one was that part of Suits was “live” when we were there. Cast and crew were on set, setting up shots that were going to be filmed later that day. We even got a peek at a few cast members in rehearsal. That wasn’t exactly part of the plan though, so we were quickly led out of the area, being told that rehearsal is a very private affair and not one usually seen by outside eyes. Not that we saw much though, but it was still kinda fun knowing that we’d had the chance to view a piece of the process that not too many others get to see.

Our tour guide for the trip through the sets was Vanessa and she took us through places such as the law library, Harvey’s office, the main bullpen area, Rachel’s office and various other offices, hallways, etc. The pilot was shot on location in New York so the entire set was made to look like the original buildings, down to the last detail. Including absolutely massive painted backdrops outside the windows that Vanessa said were so realistic when they were lit, that you’d swear you were standing in a skyscraper in the middle of Manhattan. I believed her too, considering how real they looked when not lit.

We wandered through the bullpen area, checking out Mike’s (played by Patrick J. Adams) desk amidst all the other associates desks. Then we traveled down the hall to Harvey’s gorgeous corner office and admired the autographed basketballs on display there. We also saw Rachel’s office, which (as Mike remarks on in the pilot) was very nice.

Finally we went to see Mike’s apartment, which was so realistic, I again felt like I was in a real apartment in New York City. It was small and cluttered, with an old bathroom and views to the brick buildings next door. A few of us quickly ran to the oven to see if the pizza boxes were still inside, which made Vanessa laugh at how well we all knew the show.

Then it was back to our tables so that we could do the first interview of the day, which was with star Gabriel Macht. Stay tuned for that interview as well as interviews with stars Patrick J. Adams, Sarah Rafferty and Rick Hoffman, as well as the executive producer of Suits, Doug Liman.
