DOCTOR WHO Season 7 Announced with Matt Smith Returning

DOCTOR WHO
In what is probably the best recent news (or really best news ever!), DOCTOR WHO has been renewed for an additional 14 episodes for Season 7. And best of all Matt Smith will return as The Doctor! Yay!

The news first broke on Twitter where BBC programming chief Sam Hodges tweeted:

“#DoctorWho is returning. Fourteen new episodes have been commissioned with Matt Smith as The Doctor #bbc1”

This was then followed by showrunner’s Steven Moffat tweeting:

“14 eps + Matt DEFINITELY. I’ve got a plan and I’m NOT TELLING YOU WHAT IT IS. Now hush or River shoots you with her Spoiler Gun.#formaqueue”

Moffat also later confirmed that the 14 episodes included the Christmas Special:

“13 plus Xmas is what I mean. Keeping it brief, that’s all.”

As to when those new episodes episodes will air, well according to the Guardian which confirmed it with BBC, “a good chunk” of them will be airing in 2012, but we still don’t know how many exactly.

As for now, the current sixth season just aired its seventh episode “A Good Man Goes to War” on June 4 in the UK (the episode will air this Saturday June 11th on BBC America) and will return in September with the remaining six episodes of the season.
