Which PYRATES Will Walk the Plank? May 27, 2011 FOX, News This town ain’t big enough for the two of us…is it? Earlier this week, it was announced that Port Royal, a 17th century period drama about the port’s rise as a safe haven for nefarious pirates, would be developed for FX. Now we learn from Deadline.com that Fox is in negotiations for Ridley and Tony Scott’s project PYRATES, which will be “a gritty portrayal of the men and women who pulled off the largest heist in pirate history – the capture of the Spanish silver fleet in 1628.” This galvanized the golden age of piracy, “a time when there was greater honor amongst thieves than those who hunted them.” Based on historical events, the project is conceived as a limited series of 10-13 episodes, airing in the summer of 2012. Barry Schindel (Law & Order, Numbers) created the series; and Stephen Hopkins (24) will direct the first episode. Ensemble Entertainment co-produces in association with Scott Free Productions. What do you think – the more pirates the better, or enough already?
