BET’s Gamble Pays Off with THE GAME, LET’S STAY TOGETHER, and REED BETWEEN THE LINES

The Game-Lets Stay Together (BET)

Though not yet officially announced, BET is expected to renew its popular comedy series THE GAME for a fifth season, as well as its freshman romantic comedy LET’S STAY TOGETHER. Deadline.com reports that it is likely that The Game will return with a 22-episode season 5, after its successful fourth season. Hoping to continue the success, the network’s comedy pilot, REED BETWEEN THE LINES, also will be getting a series order.

Produced by Kelsey Grammer, The Game stars Tia Mowry as Melanie Barnett, a medical student who turned down an offer of admission to John Hopkins University, in order to follow boyfriend – now husband in season 4 – Derwin Davis (Pooch Hall), a wide receiver for the San Diego Sabers. The series also stars Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, Brittany Daniel, and Coby Bell.

Let’s Stay Together highlights the lives of five young, ambitious African Americans, including a married couple, an engaged couple and a single sister who all take courageous steps as they navigate life, love and matrimony. The comedy stars Bert Belasco, Joyful Drake, Nadine Ellis, Erica Hubbard, and RonReaco Lee. The series is executive produced by Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere.

Reed Between the Lines stars Tracee Ellis Ross, who also serves as producer for the show, and Malcolm-Jamal Warner. This family comedy centers on Dr. Carla Reed (Ross), a busy psychiatrist and mother of three, who juggles a career and hectic home life. Warner plays her husband, an English professor.

The Game and Let’s Stay Together return in early 2012. Reed Between the Lines is scheduled to premiere in October 2011.
