THE MIDDLE “Royal Wedding” Review

THE MIDDLE (ABC) "Royal Wedding"

THE MIDDLE “Royal Wedding” Season 2 Episode 20 – After surviving the Heck Plague of 2011, Frankie is fixated on the impending royal wedding, Mike’s crew is fixated on pretzels, and Sue is fixated on Shucker News in the “Royal Wedding” episode of THE MIDDLE.

Okay, I have to be honest-I’m with Mike when it comes to the royal wedding. “I barely cared about our wedding. Tell me why this is such a big deal.” That said, Frankie’s joy over it is both charming and-especially during her tantrum-disturbing and she makes an excellent point that she puts up with Colts worship while catching vomit in her hands (how hilariously nasty was that?), so her family can support her enthusiasm for a woman becoming a princess. Her preparation cracks me up: the scones, the hat, the princess chick douchey teacup, Flava Flav’s necklace. Then bringing the ginormous TV into the land where things come to break (hello, nunchucks!) is the icing on the cake. Her wild-eyed tantrum veers a bit too close to Debra Barone territory, but it’s still funny and Mike doing wedding play by play for a crusty-eyed (ew) Frankie is priceless. I just wish he had described the kiss. Snort.

“We are here to talk about the pretzel situation.” Ha! It’s so true that when little perks like that are taken away in a company, it’s a huge deal and people absolutely will go full-on Norma Rae. Good seeing Chuck again and I love Mike’s presentation of the pretzels at the end. Hee.

“I’m Sue Heck and that’s what the Heck’s going on.” You know, that’s pretty darn cute and Sue trying out for something new may be my favorite Sue. Happy, excited, all in-that’s how I like my Sue-completely and utterly adorkable. Combine that with a picky Brick doing the I have to pee dance and I’m a happy girl. NEWSBENJIVERTS, indeed. Of course Brick helping her would be a disaster, but you have to admit everyone will remember that audition. Plus, my heart melts when she gets any kind of success-even if it’s just writing and holding the cue cards.

This is a fun, silly episode of The Middle where every character gets good lines and a chance to shine. It’s just heartwarming enough without getting sappy and everything just works. Good times.

Favorite lines:

“This is the Super Bowl times a million plus crowns.”

“Hey, Winnie the Pooh, there’s nothing left in there.”

“I obviously don’t care too much about how this house looks, but I have to draw the line somewhere.”

“Princess of what? Is she even allowed to behead people?”

“How about you get your hard hat on and get your back to work on.”

“It’s true. The camera does add ten pounds of dork.”

“Let’s find Cinemax and get the high def skank train going.”

“No fighting on Royal Wedding Eve.”

“I don’t want to yell at the kids alone. That’s something we like to do together.”

“What’s all the screaming? Is Justin Bieber dead?”
