6 TV Male Characters I Wish I Was Married To

Let’s face it: whether we’re a boy or a girl, whether we’re single or in a relationship or married, we all think about which good-looking actor from our favorite shows would stand at the altar in our fantasy wedding.

I mean, as long as there’s a one-in-a-million chance we’ll never meet the person for more than a minute (we can’t all have the luck of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise), what’s the harm in daydreaming?

There are a lot of characters that I’ve come to love in “that way” over the years, so picking just 5 was a pretty hard task – hence the slightly expanded list. I also realized that apparently, I really like FBI agents and vampires (probably not the best choices to bring home to my over-protective mother…)

Let’s just put this out there: bad boys are sexy. Even if we know we would never date one in real life, we’re still attracted to their personalities because they represent someone rebellious, different and dangerous.

I was a huge fan of LOST from the very beginning, and Sawyer was the character I fell in love with. He was also the one I immediately wanted to, well, for lack of better word…do really dirty things with.

Let’s break it down a bit – how could you not be attracted to the southern con man? True, he was mean-spirited, had a hated personality, and he seemed to only care about himself. But the hard sarcastic wit combined with the southern swagger made for something incredibly sexy, and for some reason, whenever he threw out an insult or started a fight, you found yourself thinking it was the hottest thing in the world.

He may have had his faults, but he was also a closet bookworm (reading everything from classic literature to young adult novels), he was cunning and smart, and he knew exactly what to say to women to get their attention. And because we knew there was a good (even loving) man underneath all those years of pent-up aggression and anger, we didn’t even care when he was mean to Hurley or Jin. Or when he killed innocent tree frogs for no reason and threatened to shoot baby boars just because they annoyed him.

Plus, when he took off his shirt? All bets were off. At least for me…

It’s been 7 years since Grey’s Anatomy premiered on ABC, and every time I’m in a hospital, I still find myself looking for my own McDreamy. Is it unrealistic to hope that somewhere in life there exists a real life Derek Shepherd? One that has really good hair?

To be honest, it’s not really the fact that Derek’s a doctor that makes me want to marry him (although I would be lying if I said that fact didn’t attract me to his character.) It’s more the person that he is – funny, personable, considerate, loving. He genuinely cares for Meredith, as well as her friends, and would put his life on the line for her. Not to mention he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make her happy. I mean, seriously – what other guy would actually go through with a post-it note wedding?

I suppose I’m cheating a little bit here…but cut me some slack. If YOU had to choose between two incredibly hot vampire brothers, would you be able to? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Damon is the requisite bad boy who delivers snarky one-liners and who spends his time roaming around Mystic Falls occasionally snacking on college-aged girls. Stefan is the nice guy who takes his girlfriend to the top of the ferris wheel at midnight and throws himself into the line of fire for people he cares about.

Both of them have the kind of wit and charm that leaves you wanting to take them home, no matter how they act. It doesn’t help that Stefan has a bad side that makes him incredibly hot, and Damon as a sensitive side that makes him entirely attractive (even if he would probably bite you and then compel you to forget anything, should you be lucky enough to go home with him.)

Besides, since Katherine Pierce never had to choose…why should I?

For the many years I obsessed over The X-Files, my role model was Gillian Anderson’s Scully – but the one I wanted to marry was David Duchovny’s Mulder.

As the tall, dark, and handsome protector who looked really good in tight grey tee-shirts (if you were an avid X-Files fan, you know what I’m referring to) you couldn’t help but be attracted to his personality. Not only did Mulder have the book smarts, but he had wit, he was passionately driven towards his cause, and he cared about the people in his life.

It wasn’t hard to fall in love with Mulder knowing that underneath obsession for finding the truth was a man who, above all, desperately wanted satisfaction and redemption. And over 10 years later, I still would drop everything if he showed up at my door flashing his badge.

I admit I got into Buffy (very) late in the game. However, that didn’t stop me from instantly taking on an attraction to Spike, and also realizing why he was one of the series’ most beloved characters.

A wise-cracking platinum blonde British vampire? Who also kicks ass on occasion, even if he’s killing people? Be still, my heart. Truthfully, it was Spike’s personality and wit that drew me in at first, but the rest of the attraction soon followed. Whether he was getting beat up by Buffy or killing on his own, he always managed to make himself appear sexy. He may have been evil, he was still someone who you could be attracted to.

Plus, Spike was pretty hilarious. While the entire show was filled with great dialogue, Spike always had some of the best humor and best retorts. Simply put, how could you not love this man?

I will be completely, 100% honest and say that it didn’t take much for me to fall in love with Richard. I swooned upon the first introduction of his character in the woods, shirtless and hunting. From there, it was all downhill.

Richard isn’t a bad boy – in fact, he’s quite the opposite. But he does fit the bill of “handsome protector,” which seems to be another recurring type in my choices. He will fight to the death for what he believes in, and protect Kahlan from harm no matter what the cost. He’ll even go so far as to sacrifice himself to keep her alive, because that’s how much he loves her.

To have that kind of dedication in a man – someone who is willing to kill to protect you – and also have someone who can look extremely good looking while fighting? Yeah, I’ll take it.

I’m aware that personally, I barely scratched the surface of who could be added to this list. But, I had to give myself a cut off somewhere, otherwise you’d be reading my article all day (trust me, you would.)
