Katherine Heigl to Star in HBO Adaptation of “The Knitting Circle”

Katherine Heigl is giving television another try. TV Line reports the former Grey’s Anatomy actress has signed on to produce and star in an untitled HBO original movie based on Ann Hood’s semi-autobiographical novel “The Knitting Circle.”

The book focuses on a mother who loses her five-year-old daughter to meningitis and her grief jeopardizes every aspect of her life, including her marriage. On the advice of her distant mother, she joins a knitting circle that helps her find her way back to the world.

Dirty Sexy Money creator and Six Feet Under writer Craig Wright is writing the script.

Besides playing Dr. Izzie Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy, Heigl starred in Roswell. She will next be seen in the feature film New Years Day and then as Stephanie Plum in One for the Road, the big screen adaptation of the Janet Evanovich novel.
