THE BIG BANG THEORY “The Herb Garden Germination” Review

The Big Bang Theory

THE BIG BANG THEORY “The Herb Garden Germination” Season 4 Episode 20 – After learning that Bernadette is thinking about breaking up with Howard, Penny tells Amy in confidence. Amy, however, decides to tell Sheldon, who tells Leonard, who tells Priya, who tells Raj (who, we learn, has a massive crush on Bernadette).

Intrigued by this propagation of information, Sheldon and Amy set up a social experiment reminiscent of the movie ‘Gossip’. There’s a juicy piece of gossip – Sheldon and Amy had sex – and a dull piece of control gossip – Amy’s starting a herb garden. It takes less than twenty-four hours for everyone to find out the former while the latter is ignored. They decide to up the ante with the second wave of gossip: Amy’s getting orthotics – oh, and she’s pregnant. We can guess that last rumor spreads like wildfire.

Howard decides to ask Bernadette to marry him. The gang brace for disaster – except for a joyous Raj – but Bernadette surprises them all by accepting. I wonder what Mama Wolowitz will have to say about that?

This was another great episode that somehow felt longer than usual despite only running 20 minutes. I really enjoyed the interaction between all the characters and somehow the final group scene didn’t feel weird despite having Bernadette, Amy and Priya. My only issue with this episode was that Penny was firmly on the sidelines. It’s understandable given Leonard and Priya’s relationship and I’m sure it’s leading up to something big, but I really wish she could have been there for the proposal. Nevertheless, a really entertaining episode.

Howard’s Mom-watch: Nothing this week. 🙁 We got some Mama and Papa Koothrappali though!

Quote/s of the episode:

Penny: “Sheldon and Amy had sex.”
Raj: “Shut. Your. Ass!”

Leonard: “Hope you’re hungry!”
Sheldon: “Interesting. A friendly sentiment in this country, a cruel taunt in the Sudan. It’s a lesson in context.”

Mama Koothrappali: “Rajesh, are you letting you sister date that little Howard boy?”
Papa Koothrappali: “Now hold on, if she’s dating an American that’s not a bad way to go. He’s Jewish. Those chaps are very successful and they don’t drink a lot.”
