Antonio “L.A.” Reid, Chairman of Island Def Jam, is the first to be chosen as a judge on Fox’s THE X FACTOR, reports The Hollywood Reporter. In order to take part in the show, Reid will get an early release from his Universal Music contract, which is up in December. Not only is he expected to be one of the four judges, THR states that “it also is believed that he will land a position at Sony Music, which is about to undergo a major management restructuring when current UMG chairman Doug Morris steps in as CEO of Sony Music on July 1.”

According to THR, news regarding Reid will be announced this week. In interviews earlier this year, Reid was “vague” in his denial that he was considering a position on The X Factor. Similarly noncommittal, Simon Cowell previously told Access Hollywood that Paula Abdul, George Michael, Nicole Scherzinger and Mariah Carey also are being considered as judges.

The X Factor awards a Sony Music recording contract worth $5 million to the winner of the singing competition. Auditions for The X Factor begin March 27 in Los Angeles. The show will air on Fox in the fall.
