Dylan Walsh Cast in New CBS Cop Drama Pilot

Dylan Walsh

Looks like Dylan Walsh is returning to television. Deadline.com reports that the former Nip/Tuck star has been tapped as the male lead in CBS’ untitled Ed Redlich/John Bellucci pilot.

The project will be directed by Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and tells the story of Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery). Once a detective who now volunteers at a nursing home, she has the special ability to remember everything, both a gift and a curse.

Walsh is set to play the role of Detective Al Burns. He’s the chief of a crack team of NYPD detectives. Back in Syracuse, and at one point Al worked with Carrie, who he considered not only the best cop he’d ever met, but also the love of his life. Unfortunately Carrie’s unusual abilities pretty much destroyed their relationship. Now engaged to someone else, Al runs into Carrie when her neighbor is murdered outside their apartment building. Eventually they put their past aside and he even enlists her as an expert “consultant” for the department. Some say that the setup and dynamic between the two main characters is a little bit like that between Simon Baker’s Patrick Jane and Robin Tunney’s Teresa Lisbon on CBS’ The Mentalist.

Walsh signed on for the pilot after reportedly fielding multiple offers. The project comes from CBS TV Studios, Sony TV and Timberman/Beverly Prods. It also reunites Walsh with CBS, the two studios and producers Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly.

In 2010 Walsh starred in the CBS drama pilot The Line and earlier this development season, he was attached to an FBI drama project (also for CBS). The actor most recently starred in Secretariat.
