Julie Benz Joins CBS Drama Pilot

NO ORDINARY FAMILY (ABC) - No Ordinary Friends (10)

Julie Benz has signed on to CBS’ untitled Susannah Grant (Party of Five, Erin Brokovich) project. Described as a drama pilot with high-concept elements, Deadline.com reports that it centers on “Michael (Patrick Wilson), an ultra-competitive surgeon whose life is changed forever when his ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle), a doctor running a free clinic, dies and begins teaching him what life is all about from the hereafter. Benz will play Michael’s sister, an unfocused and overwhelmed single mother with a huge heart.”

This supernatural medical drama comes from CBS TV Studios and Timberman/Beverly Productions. Jonathan Demme will be the director.

Benz follows in the footsteps of her No Ordinary Family co-star Michael Chiklis, who booked CBS’ comedy pilot Vince Uncensored last week. Although both Benz and Chiklis’ projects are in second position to the ABC family drama, things are not looking good for No Ordinary Family. Even superpowers may not be enough to boost the ratings.

Prior to being cast as the female lead in No Ordinary Family, Benz was best known for her role as Rita Morgan/Bennet on Showtime’s Dexter. She also had a recurring role on ABC’s Desperate Housewives.
