Cybill Shepherd Cast as Lead in ABC Pilot MY FREAKIN’ FAMILY

Cybill Shepherd

I realize that Cybill Shepherd has done a lot of work in her life, but to me she will forever remain Maddie from Moonlighting. I love just about everything she does and was very happy to hear the following news.

Deadline.com reports that the actress has been tapped for a lead role in ABC’s comedy pilot MY FREAKIN’ FAMILY.

With a title like that, I’m already in.

The pilot was written by Erica Rivinoja and tells the story of young parents Anna (Ellen Woglom) and Raj (Ravi Patel). The couple soon finds their life changing drastically after they have a baby boy and the four grandparents with very different cultural backgrounds descend upon their lives.

Shepherd is set to play the role of Raj’s uptight and sophisticated mom, Nell. She herself dresses in the traditional Indian garb and wants to be involved in baby Clark’s life so that she can make sure he doesn’t turn out “white” like her son did. To do that, she is prepared to go to war with Anna’s mom Maureen (Mo Gaffney) over Clark’s mixed cultural heritage.

Shepherd, who had her first big success of course on ABC’s Moonlighting, was also recently seen in an arc on USA’s Psych, where she plays Shawn’s mom.
