THE DEFENDERS “Morelli v. Kaczmarek” Review

THE DEFENDERS (CBS) Morelli v. Kaczmarek

THE DEFENDERS “Morelli v. Kaczmarek” Season 1 Episode 18 – Nick and Pete decide to break up in this episode, well for a little while anyway. And like a couple going through a divorce one of the first things they have to do is figure out who gets what. Nick gets the house.er, the office, but they decide to split the “kids” up between them, with Nick getting Lisa and Pete getting Zoe.

The whole thing comes about because they both want to represent different clients and starts with a bit of a snit. So at first it seems like the boys are pretty happy with the arrangement (well maybe not Pete as much but that’s because he got the dump of an office), but soon enough they both start showing signs that they miss each other. But then things get heated in the courtroom and suddenly they’re at each other’s throats again. Just when I was wondering if maybe this split was going to become permanent though, they have a huge blowout that ends with a hug and suddenly they love each other again, platonically of course.

Once they’re talking again, the go back to working as a team (even though they’re not really supposed to) and figure out that one piece of evidence that sets both their clients free. It’s a win, win for everyone..especially when they both get to sing onstage with Frank Sinatra Jr., which was very cool.

My favorite bits…

I don’t think I’ve mentioned it yet, but I just love the way they start each ep w/a great song (like tonight’s “Stop, Look & Listen” by Elvis) and shots of sights from the city. It totally makes me want to go back to Vegas again.

Cracking up that I am typing Elvis’ name just as he’s mentioned on the show. Damn, I’m good.

Agreeing with Nick, that place was indeed quite tense for a yoga studio.

Nick and Pete screaming in unison at the car in front of them.

The judge plugging his ears even as he warned Nick not to slam the door.

Thinking that Nick and Pete talking to Lisa and Zoe sorta sounded alternately like divorcing parents talking to the kids and team captains picking their team on the playground.

Zoe’s enthusiasm for being picked for Pete’s team.

Lisa’s enthusiasm for getting Pete’s office.

Laughing really hard when Pete went to sit in the chair and fell on his ass. I know it was mean but it was still pretty freaking funny.

Nick calling out for Pete before he remembered he wasn’t there…aw.

Zoe calling her temporary replacement a slut the moment she laid eyes on her. LOL.

Nick’s obvious disappointment that Pete had gotten a car without him. Another aw.

Nick calling the ADAs Siegfried and Roy. Ooh, burn.

Uh oh..Nick and Pete are pitting their clients against each other, this can’t be good.

Nick and Pete talking to their clients in separate places, but with the same results.

The dueling cell phone fight. Pete calling Nick over and over was hilarious.

Nick trying to point out that Black was his friend and Pete arguing that *he* was his friend.

Aw, a nice manly hug.

Pontiac vs. Caddie race!

Laughing at Nick actually asking Zoe to get over it.

Zoe’s horror when she found out she’d just bought Nick shoes made out of baby cows.

Nick and Pete tag-team calling the ADA and driving him nuts. Nick singing added an extra bit of annoyance, which was a nice touch.

None other than Frank Sinatra, Jr. pointing out to the boys that they were “fantastic idiots.” That was nothing short of awesome.

Nick and Pete singing with Frank Sinatra, Jr. How freaking cool was that??
