Hemingway and Gellhorn

HBO has named its supporting cast who will be joining leads Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman in the biopic HEMINGWAY & GELLHORN. The HBO film is executive produced by James Gandolfini and directed by Philip Kaufman from a script by Jerry Stahl and Barbara Turner. It recounts the tumultuous romance and subsequent marriage of literary master Ernest Hemingway (Owen) and up-and-coming war correspondent Martha Gellhorn (Kidman), following them through the Spanish Civil War and beyond.

As reported by, the large cast will include the following actors. David Strathairn (Temple Grandin) will play famous American writer and Hemingway’s friend John Dos Passos. Molly Parker (Deadwood) will play Hemingway’s second wife, Pauline. Parker Posey (Superman Returns) will play his fourth wife, Mary. Rodrigo Santoro (300) will play Zarra, a Spanish Loyalist and friend of Dos Passos. Lars Ulrich (member of Metallica) will play Joris Ivens, the Dutch documentarian of The Spanish Earth. Santiago Cabrera (Heroes) will portray famous war photographer Robert Capa. Saverio Guerra (Lucky You) will play Hemingway’s close friend Sidney Franklin. Peter Coyote (Erin Brockovich) will play Hemingway’s editor Maxwell Perkins. Diane Baker (Marnie) will play Martha’s mother. Tony Shalhoub (Monk, Too Big to Fail) will play Koltsov, a Russian journalist and apparatchik.

Filming for Hemingway & Gellhorn has already begun in San Francisco. It is scheduled to debut in 2012.
