Hank Azaria has signed on to star in NBC’s romantic comedy pilot FREE AGENTS. It has been years since we have seen Azaria on TV. We have heard his voice on The Simpsons as Apu, Moe, Chief Wiggum, and Comic Book Guy, but his last role on television was in 2006 on Showtime’s Huff.

Free Agents is based on the UK series of the same name and apparently tells a “will-they, won’t-they” love story. According to Deadline.com, the on-off romance is between two PR executives, Alex (Azaria) and Helen, who work together and are both trying to shake off their pasts. Alex is dealing with the emotions felt after a divorce; and Helen is trying to get over the loss of a fiancé. The character of Helen has yet to be cast. The project will be executive produced by John Enbom (Party Down).

Free Agent marks Azaria’s return to NBC, where he had a recurring role on Friends and starred in the comedy Imagine That. He recently co-starred in the movie Love and Other Drugs, and can soon be seen as Gargamel in the upcoming movie The Smurfs.
