CAMELOT (Starz) Episode 1 Review

Camelot Episode 1

CAMELOT (Starz) Episode 1 – The Starz network ran a sneak peek of the new series CAMELOT last night. Since I’m all about the story of King Arthur and Camelot, I was completely excited for it! And then the series started and I was SO CONFUSED in the first 5 minutes that I had no idea what was going on.

It was right around that time that I realized that I didn’t know a FRACTION of what I thought I did about the Arthur legend… and that this was a story of Arthur’s RISE to become king – not when he was already on the throne. Once I figured out what time period I was in in the legend, I was totally on board with the show.

It was fantastic. From the beginning (aside from the few minutes that I just mentioned) I was hooked and couldn’t pry my eyes from the screen…. not that I wanted to. The writing is spectacular. There are the “standard” Camelot characters – Arthur and Merlin (along with others) but they aren’t the way that I remembered these strong figures to be.

That’s what interested me in the story; I can’t wait to see the growth of these people – especially Merlin. Joseph Fiennes did a FANTASTIC job as the wizard (or sorcerer, whatever). At this point Merlin just seems like a broken man that doesn’t trust himself to use any of his powers. This was a piece of the plot that will be explored in upcoming episodes as well.

And judging by the previews it seems like Merlin and Queen Igraine may have something going on down the line; what do you think??

I’m probably going to be in the minority with this comment, but I sort of love Morgan. She’s ruthless, knows what she wants, and won’t let anything stop her. I can respect that. Not that I think her methods are the best, but it doesn’t really appear that she had the best life ever, so who knows? Maybe her crazy insane ways are warranted.

Overall, this sneak peek of Camelot just left me wanting more. I don’t know how I’m going to wait the month and 2 days until the actual premiere on April 1st!
