Loretta Devine Cast in THE GREAT STATE OF GEORGIA February 22, 2011 News, State of Georgia Looks like one of ABC Family’s newly picked up shows has already found, and recast, its lead. What can we say? Things move fast in tinsel town. Just last week I reported that ABC Family had picked up a new comedy series called THE GREAT STATE OF GEORGIA and now, according to Deadline.com the brand new show has found a brand new leading lady. Veteran Loretta Devine is reportedly set to join the cast of the new sitcom, which centers on Georgia (Raven Symone), an exuberant curvy performer from the south, and her science geek best friend Jo (Majandra Delfino) who try to make headway in New York City. Devine has been cast in the role of flamboyantly effusive Aunt Honey, a Southern grande dame often seen in silk robes and fur-trimmed mules. Aunt Honey is Georgia and Jo’s landlady and also dear friend of Georgia’s late mother. Devine will be replacing Meagen Fay who played the role in the pilot. She has most recently been seen on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy in a recurring role as the chief’s wife, Adele.
