Maria Bello to Star in PRIME SUSPECT Reboot

According to EW.com, Maria Bello will reprise the role of Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison, originated by Helen Mirren, in NBC’s version of PRIME SUSPECT. Originally targeted as a midseason replacement series for the 2010-11 season, Prime Suspect has been in development at NBC for some time. And Bello has been in recent talks with NBC about the pilot.

Mirren played Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison for seven seasons on Granada Television’s Prime Suspect, and has earned multiple BAFTA and Emmy awards for her critically acclaimed performances. As previously reported by EW.com, Bello stated that she was “definitely nervous to even think about taking over for Helen Mirren. C’mon! How could anyone compete with her? Didn’t she do about 10 of them and win an Emmy every time?” At the time, Bello expressed wanting to be involved in an acting project that equaled the humanitarian work (helping in Haiti) in her personal life. It appears that Prime Suspect is that project.

If the pilot goes to series, director Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) will executive produce with Alexandra Cunningham (Desperate Housewives) as showrunner.
