Jesse L. Martin Joins HALLELUJAH

Jesse L. Martin

Jesse L. Martin has been tapped to star in Marc Cherry’s (Desperate Housewives) new musical show HALLELUJAH, reports Deadline.com. The former Law & Order star is the first actor to be cast in the new ABC drama pilot.

Hallelujah is about the fictional town of Hallelujah, Tennessee, which is being torn apart by the forces of good and evil. But fortunes change when a stranger comes to town, bringing justice, peace and faith to its residents. Martin will play a mysterious, charming drifter who crosses paths with the newcomer. Episodes will feature songs sung by a gospel choir, acting as a Greek chorus of sorts. In an interview with TV Guide Magazine, Cherry has called the project “Glee for conservative Republicans.”

Martin rose to fame after appearing in the original Broadway production of Rent and nine seasons of Law & Order as Detective Ed Green. He was last seen on Broadway in The Merchant of Venice with Al Pacino.
