Rob Riggle Cast as Lead in HOME GAME

Rob Riggle, former Saturday Night Live cast member and Daily Show correspondent, will star in the CBS pilot HOME GAME, according to Deadline.com. He has just signed on as lead in the new CBS multi-camera comedy, inspired by the life of three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth. Home Game will focus on a retired NFL player (Riggle) who returns home to his wife Lisa (Constance Zimmer) and daughters. The project comes from executive producers Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson.

Riggle signed a third talent deal with CBS in the fall. He was originally attached to a Robert Smigel comedy that didn’t go to pilot, after which CBS sent him three other scripts, including Home Game. As a former Marine and now as an actor, Riggle identified with the character’s struggles in returning to his family after years of being away from home, playing with the pros. Another key decision-making factor was that Riggle had previously worked with Wahlberg in last summer’s The Other Guys. He also happened to be the producers’ first and only choice for the lead role in Home Game.

Home Game was written by Warren Bell and Chris Nowak. Bell, Wahlberg and Levinson executive produce, along with Riggle’s managers Peter Principato and Paul Young. Nowak serves as a co-executive producer, with Riggle and Peter Sussman as producers. NFL player-turned-sportscaster Schlereth, his wife Lisa and his daughter, actress Alexandria Schlereth, also join as producers.
