NCIS: LOS ANGELES “Tin Soldiers” Review

NCIS: LOS ANGELES “Tin Soldiers” Season 2 Episode 15 – In this episode Hetty told Callen that she hoped he would learn to play well with others, which is something that is really not easy for him. He tries to keep the team involved but as she also pointed out, his default is to go it alone when he feels that he’s in danger. So while he tries, he still falls off the wagon, going off on his own when he feels the need. He’s still working on his trust issues and though I think we’re seeing progress, he’s by no means cured.

In fact I think the reason his home is still empty could be a symptom of his troubles in this area, too. Of course the fact that he actually has a home now is a step up, but still, why isn’t it furnished? Is it because Callen is always waiting for the day when he has to leave? Because that is what he’s always known in the past – get to know people, learn to trust them, begin to love them and then they are taken away or he is forced away. Maybe he figures it will hurt less if he hasn’t any real roots and how appropriate then that Hetty gave him a plant that doesn’t need any “but they make it more stable.” Maybe Callen will learn some lessons from his new plant.

My favorite bits…

Knowing without a doubt that the man in the dark was Callen.

Finding it odd not to be starting an episode of this show in the bullpen with the entire team. So strange for it just to be Callen on his own.

Sam dressed up as a CHP. Man, I so wish I could have seen Callen in one of those uniforms.

Deeks telling Kensi that he would have only slept with his girlfriend’s friend if she had asked, and only to be polite. Ha!

Sam telling Deeks that he could work undercover as Shaggy from Scooby Doo. OMG, that is so true! The resemblance is rather striking now that he’s mentioned it.

Callen remarking that he needed to get out more when he watched the hotties walk by in the club.

Kensi’s palm reading of Callen sounding totally valid, up until she added the part about the kittens and Barry Manilow. Then again, how do we know those bits aren’t true? Hmm.

One of Deeks’ old contacts showing up…with a couple friends. Oops.

Deeks’ cry of “easy on the leather” coming through very clearly in the midst of the brawl. LOL.

Hetty saying that she hoped Callen would learn the art of trusting others.

Callen finding the man who gave him the soldier, dead. Ugh, can Callen ever catch a break? The moment he gets close to finding out something about his past, he hits a dead end.

Almost feeling sorry for the poor thug that thought he could get one over on Kensi. As if.

Okay so it may not have made a lot of sense to Sam but I thought Deeks had a great point that both of them just needed to work together to save their partners, so that they wouldn’t have to be partners anymore, because neither of them liked being partners with each other. Now, what was so hard to understand about that?

Kinda curious how Sam managed to drive his car straight into the Forum but not really caring as it was pretty freaking cool.

Sam pointing out that Callen was like a lone wolf, until he got in trouble and needed Sam to save his ass. So true.

Aw, Sam and Deeks ending their mini fight with mutual admiration of marksmanship.

Double aw, what a nice Sam and Callen hug.

Deeks asking Kensi if they would ever be as happy as Sam and Callen and her reply that they would, but just not with each other. Teehee!

Hetty telling Callen that the past was the past and today is what is important. Awesome.

Callen putting the soldier in with his box of treasures.
