THE BIG BANG THEORY “The Thespian Catalyst” Review

THE BIG BANG THEORY "The Thespian Catalyst"

THE BIG BANG THEORY “The Thespian Catalyst” Season 4 Episode 14 – Things get theatrical on this week’s episode. After a badly recieved lecture, Sheldon decides to take an acting class – from Penny. Her suggestions for activities don’t go down well, however, and the pair end up reading a scene adapted from a 10-year old Sheldon’s Star Trek fanfic.

Meanwhile, an insecure Raj is bolstered by Bernadette declaring him ‘sexy’. He then goes on to fantasize various scenarios in which Howard gives them permission to hook up, and ends the episode deciding that he is definitely not gay.

I wasn’t really feeling this episode until the very end. While Sheldon and Penny interacting is always going to make me smile, the whole episode just felt like a bit of a reminder about how awkward Sheldon is when out in the world – except he wasn’t that awkward at all. Sure, the tweets and photos painted him as a world class bore, but he seemed to handle the classroom scene pretty well before that. (And his jokes weren’t quite as dry as those of many real life tutors!)

Raj’s fantasies weren’t on par with Howard’s hilariously geektastic musings, but the musical scene was brilliant. It was just so ridiculous that I couldn’t help but grin like a loon. Another good thing to come out of these fantasies is that we got to see Raj talking in front of women without being drunk – I really think that they could get rid of that particular social anxiety in the regular scenes without losing any amusement (or awkwardness) on Raj’s part.

Howard’s Mom-watch Nothing this week. 🙁

Quote/s of the episode:

Raj: “Cute is for bunnies, I want to be something with sex appeal. Like a labradoodle.”
Penny: “Hello, Mrs Cooper? I think I broke your son.”
