Greg Grunberg Cast in A&E’s BIG MIKE

Greg Grunberg

Greg Grunberg (Heroes) is leaving network tv and heading over to cable. According to TVLine.com, the actor is set to star in A&E’s hourlong pilot BIG MIKE.

The project is co-produced by Happy Madison and Sony Pictures TV and Grunberg plays the title character, a plus-sized detective and a force of nature in the San Diego PD. Though he’s one of the best in his field out on the streets, Mike’s greatest challenge is his romantic life. Exec producing and writing the series are There’s Something About Mary co-writers Ed Decter and John Strauss.

Grunberg’s casting apparently lifts the contingency on the pilot despite the fact that the actor is formally in second position to NBC’s Love Bites. He was given regular status on the NBC anthology dramedy after a memorable guest stint in the pilot. But the series, which was initially scheduled for a fall launch in the Thursday 10 PM slot, has yet to get a premiere date and even more ominous, its order was recently trimmed from 13 to 9. Uh oh.
