LIE TO ME “Gone Baby Gone” Review

Lie to Me (FOX) Season 3 - Tim Roth

LIE TO ME “Gone Baby Gone” Season 3 Episode 12 – After having a conversation with his dead mother in a previous episode, this time Cal gets the chance to meet his younger self…..well, sort of. A baby is kidnapped and after suspecting everyone from the mother herself, to the man she had an affair with to the fertility doctor who was trying to help them conceive the baby in the first place, they figure out it was the big brother.

Cal figures it out after seeing that he and the boy share a kinship and have a lot in common. When Cal told the boy that he understood him and knew exactly what it was like to hate his father but love his mother, it just killed me. The more we learn about Cal, the more I understand why he can be such an insufferable bastard sometimes.

My favorite bits…

Groaning when the mother left her child in the car. I don’t care if nothing had happened, I still would never have been able to do that. I would’ve been freaked out for my kid after about two and a half seconds.

Cal giving Eli and Torres crap for not getting to the office fast enough, despite the fact that it was a Saturday.

Cal asking Lane if everything that came out of his mouth had to sound pissed-off. Yes! Finally somebody pointed out what a jerk this guy is.

Cal stepping between Lane and Collette when she started to tell him the truth.

Cal asking Lane when he was going to have the guts to admit his part in all of it.

Astin: “I beg your pardon?”
Cal: “Well, you can beg all you like.”

The super-subtle way Cal snuck in “and in the sack,” when they were asking Astin if Collette was a good teacher.

The way that Cal kept getting Eli to start talking and then cutting him off with “bored.”

Cracking up so hard at this bit:
Cal: “You notice anything unusual about the cops in this photo?”
Anna: “They’re pretty much all kinda hunks?”
Cal: “That’s what Loker said.”
Eli: “Hilarious.”

Cal telling LJ that taking on a drunk father with a beer in his hand yelling threats at his mother wasn’t worth it, and he knew it from experience.

Being pretty surprised when Lane punched Cal in the stomach. Yeah I know he told the guy “make me,” but who thought he’d really do it?

Emily telling Liam “come over an hour early, we can make out,” in front of her dad.

The doctor’s patient walking out when Cal asked (very loudly I might add) if any of the good doctor’s patients got the wrong sperm. Talk about awkward.

That entire conversation between Cal and LJ.

Finally seeing a touch of humanity in Lane after he got his daughter back but realized he wanted his son home, too.

Cal warning Liam to stay out of the middle of the battle between him and Emily. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.
