THE MENTALIST “Bloodhounds” Review

THE MENTALIST “Bloodhounds” Season 3 Episode 12 – Jane may have met his match in this episode when a new doctor joins the team temporarily as a liaison. Bringing with her a new kind of science, she uses numbers and formulas to track down killers. At first I thought her science stuff sounded ridiculous but then she kept coming to the same conclusions as Jane, which was as amusing to me as it seemed to be to him.

Jane put it well when he said that the whole thing was just one big mathematical equation to her, but eventually the two of them actually started hitting it off. I liked that he got her to sit back and “turn off the super-computer”, just letting thoughts come to her to see where they went. At the same time though, she also got him to see that her methods had some validity too. I was sure I was going to dislike Montague the moment she came on screen, afraid that she’d upset the dynamic of the team and Jane’s part in it. By the end though, I was enjoying the two of them working together and actually wouldn’t mind it at all if she came back in a future episode.

My favorite bits…

Totally agreeing with Jane when he said that dead cars were beautiful but dead bodies, not so much.

Jane letting the dog go and then backing up and squeaking “it’s a foot!” like a little girl when it found another body. LOL.

The teeny bit of tension between Cho and Rigsby and the fact that it didn’t go unnoticed by Lisbon.

Jane not bothering to hide his boredom as Dr. Montague droned on and then telling her that at least she was wrong with conviction.

Jane’s impromptu rap as he and Lisbon walked into the shelter.

Jane and Lisbon running into Montague and Rigsby at the shelter. Ha, so much for thinking she didn’t know what she was doing.

Montague telling Jane that habitual mockery was a strong indication of depression. Really? Oh crap.

Jane losing the bet to Montague less than two minutes after they made it.

Jane spotting that Rigsby liked Montague. Oh yeah, I totally saw that too.

The kid-in-a-candy-store look Jane got when he saw the sodas on the line.

Thinking that Jane and Montague were riding one of the nicest city buses I’d ever seen in my life.

Jane calling Lisbon and telling her there was no need to be so grumpy that he ditched her.

Lisbon ordering Van Pelt to find her old couch.

Jane being sure to point out to Montague that he was using sarcasm when he praised her people skills.

Jane calmly telling Lisbon that there was no serial killer and he wrote the letter. OMG I wouldn’t have blamed her if she had strangled him right then and there.

Jane coming in and basically fixing up Montague and Rigsby and even going so far as to buy her a gift “from Rigsby.”

Kinda falling for the new present from the “Caveman”. Damn him, but Jane was very convincing.

Montague spotting that Rigsby was in love with someone else.

Cho scaring the girls by imitating the Caveman.

Cho getting Rigsby the soda as a peace offering to prove they were okay.

Jane going into the trash to pull out Montague’s chart on Red John.
