OFF THE MAP “Smile, Don’t Kill Anyone” Review

OFF THE MAP (ABC) Smile. Don't Kill Anyone

OFF THE MAP “Smile, Don’t Kill Anyone” Season 1 Episode 2 – Cheech Marin was wonderful in this episode as a medicine man that gives Tommy a lot of grief before the doc figures out how to mesh his modern medicine with Papa’s old ways. I loved the symbolism of Tommy fixing Sofia’s scar. Because closing the scar he was closing the door to the demons being able to get in and also winning her trust so that she would take the medication for the seizures.

This show is all about how being a doctor in the jungle is different than in a regular hospital and boy did we see that tonight. I was really impressed with the anaconda-as-tourniquet storyline, as well as Mina learning that her job didn’t end when a patient died. So far the stories have been really interesting and I hope they can keep it up.

My favorite bits…

This line from Mina: “I find it the height of irony that he’s the whore and we’re the ones stuck bathing like hookers?”

Mina naming her chicken “Dinner.” Hilarious.

Cole trying to convince Zita that she wanted a piece of his American ass.

Mina saying she couldn’t handle any more naked people.

Finding out that their “snake bite” was actually a guy being squeezed to death by an anaconda. Yikes.

Totally thinking that they should sedate the thing way before Lily did.

Mina mumbling underneath the tent and totally mocking everything Ryan was saying.

OMG it’s Cheech!!

Tommy clarifying that they thought the seizures were caused by a “demon portal.” LOL!

Them pulling an engagement ring out of the guy’s leg.

Finding out that Cole told Papa that Tommy had been dropped on his head. LOL.

Not being the least bit surprised to find out that Mina’s nickname at her last hospital was “The Sadist.”

Tommy putting his training in plastic surgery to good use and fixing Sofia’s scar.

Totally knowing when Lily started her story that it was going to end with her fiancé not making it home. So sad.

Lily throwing away the phone.

Zita inviting Cole to go for a “walk.”

Lily smiling when she saw that her phone was gone and then going to take a shower in the waterfall. It was an awesome and empowering moment, up until she lost her towel.

Ben’s “Oh yeah. I saw it all” as he walked off.
