NCIS: LOS ANGELES “Overwatch” Review

NCIS: LOS ANGELES (CBS) Bounty

NCIS: LOS ANGELES “Overwatch” Season 2 Episode 12 – It’s unusual for me to come to the end of a TV show and not really have any overall comments for it. Usually as I’m watching I’ll notice new things about the characters, where certain story arcs seem to be heading, find I’m particularly enjoying an actor’s performance, etc. But none of that happened this time.

Now before you get all huffy thinking that I’m taking a swipe at this episode, let me reassure you that I’m not. I enjoyed this one quite a bit actually. It had everything in it that I like from this show – great Sam and Callen moments, great Kensi and Deeks banter, Nell and Eric pulling off their usual magic (and throwing in the odd geeky reference here and there), plus the ever-mysterious Hetty doing something that she’s even more mysterious than we thought.

So while there was nothing jaw-dropping in this episode or anything that brought me to tears or made me break into spontaneous cheers, it was still a mighty fine episode of NCIS: Los Angeles. And really, what else can you ask for than that?

My favorite bits…

Rose thinking fast and hiding with the dead body to stay alive. Good job!

Callen getting caught with his hand in the proverbial cookie jar when he snatched Hetty’s “syrup.” Naughty boy.

Hetty taking Callen up on his offer to race the wall.

Callen telling Hetty she didn’t scare him… well maybe a little. Hey, I don’t blame him, she scares me a little bit too.

Callen trying to work his way through all of Hetty’s ?yoda mind tricks?. Silly man, hasn’t he learned by now that that’s an impossible task?

Kensi sidestepping the body when she came around the corner.

Kensi saying if Deeks got his head frozen, she’d like to put it on her desk in a fish tank.

Deeks and Kensi having an entire conversation about why he became a cop while they were approaching the van and never missing a move.

Sam telling Deeks to get back in the box after thinking outside of it made him come up with cannibalism as a possible motive for murder.

Deeks telling Kensi that he knew about the Twinkies she’d been sneaking in the car. And yet one more reason why I love her. Though I’m more of a Ding Dong girl myself.

Nell’s LOTR (that’s Lord Of The Rings for people who don’t know) joke going straight over Sam’s head.

Callen telling Nell that her description of a guy standing outside with binoculars and a diaper was a “nice visual.” Yes that’s one way to put it.

Sam asking the lady for directions to the restroom, saying he had a “condition.” I have no idea why he did it but it cracked me up.

Deeks catching Hector by accidentally hitting him with a door. Ouch.

Callen telling Hector that if they wanted his opinion they’d go visit his blog. Ha!

Nell pointing out that dead men don’t walk unless it’s Halloween. Oh I don’t know about that. I mean has she seen The Walking Dead? Cuz they walk all the time on that show.

Thanking Eric too when that door opened before Callen had to pick up the head. So glad I didn’t have to see that. Ick.

Kensi literally shaking off just having been hit by a car. Damn, that girl is tough.

Deeks’ super impressive slowmo shot from the water.

Sam ducking down so that Callen could take the shot. Awesome maneuver.

Nell showing the footage of Deeks falling into the water over and over again.

Rose setting up the whole shrine for Edgar and covering all the bases. So sweet.

This bit after the screen went black and Hetty raced off towards the wall.
Callen: “Dammit!”
Hetty: “I told you I was good.”
