Liam McIntyre To Replace Andy Whitfield in SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND?

Liam McIntyre | Spartacus states that Liam McIntyre is the likely candidate to replace Andy Whitfield in SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND. Whitfield is battling a recurrence of cancer and could no longer continue the role. At the Television Critics Association press tour, Starz President Chris Albrecht confirmed that there would indeed be a second full season of Spartacus with entirely new characters and new settings. Spartacus: Blood and Sand will probably air in early 2012 on Starz.

Sidebar: Fear not Spartacus die-hards! Spartacus: Gods of the Arena is a six episode prequel which will debut on January 21 on Starz. This prequel is set five years before the events in Spartacus: Blood and Sand take place. It does not feature Andy Whitfield, so it will be interesting to see how viewers react to the miniseries. Will it and the second season be as successful without the original well-accepted and pivotal main character?

It kicked ass. Now this is what a prequel should be, not that wannabe starwars crap that lucas did…

  • So sad about Andy.  In time we will grow to love Liam but never forget Andy.

Wont be the same without Andy! I don’t know about his acting but when it comes to looks, Liam isnt nearly as hansom as Andy.
    Get well soon Andy!
