ABC Greenlights Pilot from Shonda Rhimes

Shonda Rhimes

According to’s Inside TV ABC has greenlit its first pilot for the 2011-12 development season.

The new drama will be coming from uber-producer Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers, who brought us both ABC hit series Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. The as yet untitled project will be written by Rhimes and will revolve around the life and work of a professional “fixer” and her “dysfunctional staff,” an ABC spokeswoman says.

The character is based on the career of Judy Smith, a crisis management consultant who has guided corporations, politicians and public figures over the last 20 years. Smith is also co-executive producer, which should ensure that the storylines stay as close to reality as possible.

The project will be produced under Rhimes’ Shondaland shingle for ABC Studios and while some may wonder if Shonda is spreading herself too thin, I think that she’s more than proven herself as a prolific writer and producer. Considering how much I enjoy both Grey’s and Private Practice, I’m willing to at least give this new series a watch.
