THE BIG BANG THEORY “The Justice League Recombination” Review

THE BIG BANG THEORY "The Justice League Recombination"

THE BIG BANG THEORY “The Justice League Recombination” Season 4 Episode 11 – Penny is back in a relationship with Zack, he of The Lunar Excitation and last week’s The Alien Parasite Hypothesis. This isn’t great news for Leonard, but it gets worse; the guys want to enter the comic book shop’s annual costume party contest as the Justice League – again – and decide Zack should replace Leonard as Superman. So he takes on the role of the Green Lantern, leaving an unimpressed Raj as an ‘Indian Aquaman’. This sounds like a recipe for disaster, but it actually goes well and they win the contest.

This episode had one main plotline. There were no detours to see the gals hang out and paint their nails, no splitting the guys up to deal with different issues, just one plotline with everyone involved. It was a simple concept, but it worked brilliantly.

Overall, this episode seemed to be set up for us to realize how much Leonard and Penny miss each other. The kiss at the end of the episode, with Penny sadly looking toward Leonard, was incredibly sad, but gave hope that they may give their relationship another try in the future.

This would have been a lot less interesting if Penny had been dating yet another douchey frat-boy type. At first glance, Zack may seem to fall into that category, but once he starts talking he’s sweet and enthusiastic and genuinely seems to like hanging out with the guys – even if they’re not quite so enamored with him. Zack’s dimness aside, he plays wonderfully off the regular characters and I hope we see him again this season. (As much as I don’t want to see Amy Farrah-Fowler back anytime soon, it would be fun to see her reaction to Zack’s lacking intellect instead of just his looks.)

(And look, Stuart! I love Stuart. If it was up to me, Stuart would be in every episode.)

Howard Mom-watch: Nothing this week, but a great little moment from Sheldon and Stuart.

Sheldon: Let’s ask ourselves, is there anyone we know who would make a more manly and convincing son of Krypton?
Stuart: Than Leonard in high heeled boots? Howard’s mother in high heeled boots?

Quote/s of the episode:

Zack: We’re going to a costume party at the comic book store on New Year’s Eve and you get to be Wonder Woman!
Sheldon: Complete with bullet-proof bracelets and lasso of truth. Invisible plane sold separately.

Howard: No, I know bullying. He left here un-swirlied and his ass crack was underpants free.

(New!) Scene of the episode: Sheldon (as The Flash) running to the Grand Canyon and back. Classic!
