THE CLOSER Season 7 Will Be the Last One

TNT has announced that the seventh season of its hit drama THE CLOSER, set to air in 2011, will be its last. The decision was made by the show’s star, Emmy winner Kyra Sedgwick.

“I cannot fathom how difficult it will be to say goodbye to the incredible family we’ve created on The Closer,” Sedgwick said. “I will always be grateful to James Duff for his love and friendship, as well as for creating such a rich and complex character who I have loved living with year after year. Mike, Greer, Rick and all of our outstanding cast and crew are forever in my heart. I want to thank TNT and Warner Bros. Television, as well as the incredible fans of The Closer, for all of their unwavering support over the last seven years.”

The Closer has been a huge success for TNT, both critically and commercially. Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks said, “”It’s impossible to fully express our appreciation to Kyra Sedgwick, series creator James Duff and all of the other talented people who brought The Closer to TNT viewers. The Closer was a pivotal series in setting a new course for TNT’s original programming, while also serving as a prime example of the storytelling strength possible on cable television.”

While it’s always hard to say goodbye to a great show, there is something to be said for letting it go out–on its own terms–while it is still firing on all cylinders, which The Closer certainly is. What do you think about this news? Is The Closer ending at the right time? What do you want to see happen in its last season?

Season six of The Closer is just finishing up on TNT Mondays nights at 9pm eastern/8pm central. Production of the fifteen episode final season (which will include the 100th episode) is set to begin in the spring.
