Internet Vs TV Now Equal in Popularity December 15, 2010 News, Tech For the first time ever, the internet is now just as popular as television with the average American consumer. According to a new report from Forrester, consumers spend an equal amount of time each week online as they do watching television. The report, which is set to be released this week by Forrester, shows that the average American consumer spends 13 hours each week on the internet; and the same amount each week watching television. Consumers are not watching less television; rather they are spending more of their other free time on the internet. Online shopping and social networking are the main reasons behind the shift in internet usage compared to television. Since 2007, the number of Americans shopping online has gone from one-third of the populace to two-thirds.
