NO ORDINARY FAMILY “No Ordinary Mobster” Review

No Ordinary Family (ABC) - No Ordinary Mobster

NO ORDINARY FAMILY “No Ordinary Mobster” Season 1 Episode 7 – The mystery storyline of NO ORDINARY FAMILY takes a large step forward tonight. George’s co-counsel is shot by mobster Luka. Luka is killed by the Watcher after seeing Jim’s identity and powers. Stephanie visits Dr. Volson’s wife, and is given an explanation scripted by Dr. King who had previously told Stephanie to stop looking into Dr. Volson’s research. On the family front, Katie tutors JJ. And JJ helps Daphne and Katie with their dating troubles.

For all the information presented in tonight’s episode “No Ordinary Mobster”, I am surprised that I didn’t find it more exciting. It is a good episode but the clues are revealed in such a matter-of-fact manner that the direction of the plot was generally quite obvious. Admittedly I did not expect Susan Volson to get up and walk, or for the Watcher to show up as Katie’s date. But clearly Luka was doomed to die. And Dr. King is consistently involved with all things unexpected. Did he make Dr. Volson go crazy; did Dr. Volson really commit suicide? As always, we are left with more questions than answers. Moreover will the Watcher finally get a name now? I’m not sure whether the Watcher caught a glimpse of Jim’s face or not. If so, wouldn’t the Watcher have killed Jim or kidnapped him? Otherwise why would the Watcher just let it go and not tell Dr. King? I already feel sorry for Katie being used as the Watcher’s “way in”, in order to keep an eye on Jim. I can’t imagine that it will end well for her. And I hope that I’m correct in assuming that Amy Acker will return as Amanda. Even her brief appearance was a nice addition to the show. As for the Powell family, Jim and Stephanie continue to tempt fate with the way that they use their powers in public. But when they are decorating the room, they make it seem so fun to use their abilities in everyday activities. Daphne is still trying to lead her normal teenage life with the assistance of her (and JJ’s) powers. JJ is causing trouble again by lying and creating a fake profile in the name of helping Katie. Will he ever learn? His character is a mix of sad, irritating, and pure teenager. How will JJ react to Katie’s new relationship next week on No Ordinary Family?
