HAWAII FIVE-0 “Po’ipu” Review

HAWAII FIVE-0 (CBS) Po'ipu

HAWAII FIVE-0 “Po’ipu” Season 1 Episode 9 – There was so much good stuff in this episode, it’s hard to know where to begin. First off there was the emotional turmoil from the team having to protect a man who is a mass murderer. I like that they never backed down on that job, even before they knew that his intentions were to come to this country and give himself up so that he could end the war back home. They didn’t like it, but they still did their jobs.

Then there’s the whole story of McGarrett’s old SEAL buddy coming back into town and putting a little rift between him and Danny. McGarrett doesn’t listen to Danny’s gut and it bites him royally in the ass when the guy turns out to be the assassin. That storyline was great because in the end, it brought the partners closer together after McGarrett realized he should have heeded Danny’s warnings.

Plus it gave us an amazing car chase/shoot out in the street, complete with explosions. Then it gave us a lockdown with just the team on their own up against an invasion of bad guys, PLUS a hand to hand fight between McGarrett and Nick.

I mean seriously, can it get any better than that?

My favorite bits..

Thinking that Emmanuelle Vaugier really gets around… no, not like that. Such dirty minds you have, people. No I mean she’s been on a lot of my favorite shows – Supernatural, Human Target and Covert Affairs.

Danny’s expression when Nick called McGarrett … SmoothDog?

Cracking up when McGarrett accused Danny of being jealous of Nick, because I’d just been thinking the same thing myself. Great mimds think alike, I guess.

McGarrett telling Danny that he was built without a sensor button.

Chin letting Kono walk through what she saw at the murder scene. Love how they don’t always treat her as the stupid newbie but actually teach her, too.

This bit:
McGarrett: “Do you realize how much of your life revolves around food?”
Danny: “Do you realize how much of your life revolves around armed conflict?”

Cheering when Danny came up with “Jonathan Bon Jovi” as one of the great singers that came from Jersey. Heck yeah!

Danny telling McGarrett that was going to “get real Jersey up in this piece”. I’m not entirely positive what that meant but I kinda wanna see him do it.

Chin creating the woman’s face from all the camera angles. Nice!

Kono taking down the guy with a flying tackle. Wow!

Realizing why Nick looks so familiar. Wow, he gets around too……. and no, I still don’t mean that. He’s been on some of my favorite shows – Burn Notice, Lie To Me and White Collar.

McGarrett cleverly avoiding Danny’s questioning about what his specialty was.

Danny suggesting that maybe they could hire the woman to kill herself. Huh, I wonder if that would work?

Giving a little clap when I saw Danny running. Yay for Scott’s knee apparently being all better.

Okay so is there anyone out there who DIDN’T jump when the bus came out and hit the chick?

Not being at all surprised to find out that Nick was connected to the assassination attempt. McGarrett built him up so much, it was kinda obvious he was bad.

Chin telling the little boy that he was scared and pointing out how brave the kid had been through it all. Aw.

Danny and Chin agreeing that it was definitely the fall that killed the guy Chin blew off the balcony. Yep, definitely.

Getting more than a little excited to see that the final battle was going to come down to McGarrett and Nick going hand to hand. C’mon , admit it, y’all wanted that to happen too. It’s just not satisfying any other way.

Danny telling McGarrett to do a better job at picking his friends and then laughing when McGarrett pointed out that he’d picked him. LOL, yeah that’s true.

McGarrett’s admission that he messed up being good news to Danny as it proved he was a human being. LOL.

Danny’s instincts telling him that McGarrett had conveniently forgotten his wallet again.
