LIE TO ME “The Canary’s Song” Review

LIE TO ME (FOX) The Canary's Song

LIE TO ME “The Canary’s Song” Season 3 Episode 5 – Ever since I heard that The Lightman Group wasn’t going to be working with the FBI and that Agent Reynolds wasn’t going to be around anymore, I wondered how that would effect the show. I was really hoping that Eli would get more screen time, but after the first couple of episodes I wasn’t even sure if he was going to be sticking around, considering how much he and Cal were fighting.

Personally I think Cal could use another sidekick, maybe one a little wet behind the ears, which is exactly what we can get from Eli. He’s well-taught in the art of spotting lies but all those street smarts, everything that Cal does without thinking, Eli still has to learn all that. Obviously this is what Cal wanted all along, to get Eli out of the office and into the field.

Overall Cal does his work just fine on his own, as he’s proven many times over, but he also does well with a partner sometimes too. For instance in this episode, both Cal and Eli find out pieces of the whole story of what happened in the mine. I loved Eli getting in on a couple fights with a baseball bat, though I was a little disappointed that he didn’t follow up after the girl ran out with the gun and instead Cal had to go fix that last bit on his own. Oh well, I guess Eli still has some things to learn.

My favorite bits..

Foster asking the Dylan what Lightman had done now. Oh how well she knows him.

Foster telling Cal that the situation with the FBI needed a woman’s touch and to get lost. LOL!

Cal telling the kid that he was a pain in the ass. Well, at least he admitted it.

Practically jumping off my couch when Eli pulled out the bat and Cal said “he’s with me”. Yes! Finally these two are working together (I hope, I hope, I hope).

Cal telling Eli to back off and go to a farther urinal. LOL.

Foster telling Dylan she wasn’t going to let him near Cal. Nice.

Cal’s “Tweet”. It was simply brilliant the way he delivered that line.

Finding out that Eli is a pretty talented pickpocket.

Eli not only taking out the crazy guy with the gun but ordering him to “stay down!”. OMG I never thought I’d say this about Eli but damn, that was kinda hot. LOL.

Cal telling the guy the difference between beating him in the chest with the sledgehammer and beating him in the head with it. Yikes, graphic much?

Cal showing up to the office wearing his miner’s hat, light and all, and finding a passed out Torres on the couch and a very drunk Foster staring at the stars.

Foster getting an actual, heartfelt “thank you” out of Cal and that whole flirty final scene between the two of them.

Overall I like the way they’re playing around with the relationships on the show – getting rid of Reynolds, putting Eli and Cal together sometimes, Eli and Torres flirting, Torres and Foster getting drunk together and finally Cal and Foster ramping up their own flirting. It looks like the relationships amongst the team are getting stronger and I like it.

So what did you think of this episode of Lie To Me? Got any favorite bits or least favorite bits of your own? What did you think of Eli working out in the field? How about that final scene between Foster and Cal? I’d love to hear from you!
