MEDIUM “Native Tongue” Review

MEDIUM Native Tongue

MEDIUM “Native Tongue” Season 7 Episode 7- When Allison wakes up one morning and finds that all she can understand is gibberish (or so she thinks) the language barrier causes a rift between herself and Joe as she tries to solve the murder of two Native Americans. One of the major problems with Medium is that the show is constantly balancing a line between brilliant and disbelief. This week fell firmly into the latter category.

There were so many ridiculous things wrong with this episode it was almost laughable. First of all you have the hot doctor scenario: that Joe would even consider cheating on Allison, after so many years, with the first hot woman to show an interest in him was just insulting to our intelligence. He has always been shown as the ever patient, loving, understanding husband. That he would consider faltering so quickly (she suffered from the inability to understand English for only three days remember-three lousy days) was just ridiculous.

Then there was the whole Devalos doubting her stream, which, after seven seasons, I’d hope was an issue never to crop up again.

The worst storyline was undoubtedly Joe’s, but the professor’s was a close second. Befriending Allison (and their friendship was so sombre and dull) she reveals that Allison understands an ancient Navahoe dialect. That Allison was unable to piece together her involvement with the victims was just sloppy writing. The worst scene was probably the bath tub sex scene-worrying about her new friend’s fate after envisioning her being hit over the head, Allison has enough time to draw a warm soapy bath and light some candles, make up and out with Joe, and…well, that’s it really.

At least Bridgette and Maria provided some spark to the episode with their hilarious three dollar deal at the breakfast table. Unfortunately, the rest of the episode was pretty dire.
