THE OFFICE “The Sting” Review

The Office (NBC) - The Sting

THE OFFICE “The Sting” Season 7 Episode 5 – Oh, THE OFFICE. Once again you have let me down. Season 7 of The Office continued Thursday night with “The Sting”; and the one good thing I can say is that Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood) is aging really, really, REALLY well.

I sort of felt like Kelly when Michael brought Danny into the office and introduced him to everyone. Her “**** me…” response was one of the three times I laughed during “The Sting”.

I’m pretty sure I used the word “underwhelming” in my review of last week’s episode (if not, I should have), and while I hesitate to recycle it, it seems to be the best way to describe most of season 7.

With the exception of “Andy’s Play” (episode 3), we’ve been given The Office episodes that are shadows of the former seasons. Tentative writing, random character trait changes, etc. I’m disappointed.

However, a few things about “The Sting” were worth watching. I liked when Jim and Dwight called Michael in to help close the sale when they realized they were up against Danny (Olyphant). Say what you will about Michael Scott, but he is an amazing salesman, which is the ONLY reason I believe he still has a job at Dunder Mifflin.

I felt that Olyphant made a great guest star, and I’m hoping to see more of him in the future. He is scheduled to appear in at least one more episode; which I think has the potential to lead to some very awkward situations between Danny, Jim, and Pam.

So to recap – once again I wasn’t overly impressed with The Office, but found the following funny:

  • Andy, Kevin, and Daryl jamming “Bullfrog In Love”
  • Angela and Kelly re: Danny: “He looks like Josh Duhamel!” (Come on ladies; you KNOW you’ve confused the two at some point)
  • Pam to Jim: “You know I have a kid with you, right?”
  • Here’s hoping that episode 6 kicks it up a notch!
