BLUE BLOODS “Officer Down” Review

BLUE BLOODS "Officer Down" Review

BLUE BLOODS “Officer Down” Season 1 Episode 4 – An officer is simply in the wrong place at the wrong time and is killed by three men robbing a diamond store. After word of her death gets out, every cop in the city is put on alert and starts looking for the killer. Finding one of the culprits dead, they find out that the killer had one other partner, a man named Ricky Vintano that also happens to be the son of “Happy Jack”. Happy Jack was a mobster, but he was also one of the “good bad guys”, taking out a cop killer himself back in the day. He and Henry used to be somewhat friendly back when Henry was on the force so he tries to help by talking to his old friend and getting him to give up his son.

Meanwhile Danny has a new partner, a woman he used to know back when he worked narcotics and when they find Ricky, he asks her to turn a blind eye as he once again uses his own version of interrogation to get the name of Ricky’s partner (and the one who pulled the trigger). The killer is found and decides to go out fighting, allowing every cop on the scene to empty their gun into him.

My favorite bits…

Frank choosing to carry his father’s gun.

Danny telling Jamie that the templar wasn’t something for a rookie to worry about.

Jamie’s partner telling him that the good thing about his job is that it keeps his marriage in perspective, right before they answered a call where a woman was berating her husband on the street, calling him a pig with a bullhorn and a giant inflatable pig.

The look between Danny and Jamie as the two of them acknowledged how easily it could have been either of them.

Frank going in to speak to the officer’s family.

Danny bringing in the city worker who just happened to be fixing a light in front of the one camera that could have helped them find the killer.

The guy remembering part of the license plate because it was his mother’s initials.

Erin finding it ironic that she has the role of “bad cop” with her kid when she’s the only one in the family who’s not a cop.

Erin telling her father that he can’t blame himself for every cop who dies, as all of them are doing a job they love.

Frank’s eulogy for the fallen officer and the way he broke down at the end of it.

Danny going straight back to work after the funeral, probably the best thing for him.

Ricky screaming “lawyer!” over and over in the back seat of the car.

Danny threatening to do to Ricky what Ricky’s father once did to another cop killer if he didn’t give up the name of his partner. Wow.

“Monster” deciding to take on the entire police department, and losing.

Jamie and his partner doing back to the woman who was fighting with her husband, and this time finding her with a live pig.

Henry referring to Lady “Guga”. LOL.

Overall I found this to be an intense episode of Blue Bloods, dealing with a very loaded subject that made the family deal with some hard issues.

What did you think of the episode? Got any favorite bits or least favorite bits of your own? I’d love to hear from you!
