SHERLOCK Season 2 Spoilers

Sherlock bbc

SHERLOCK, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as John Watson, will return for a second season of three 90-minute feature length episodes in 2011.

If you haven’t watched the show yet, I urge you to do so as it is by far one of the best crime dramas ever produced in modern times. Don’t take my word for it, check out the first episode of Sherlock when it airs for the first time in the US on October 24, 2010 on PBS.

For those of you who have had a chance to watch it already, Steven Moffat the co-creator of the series and current show runner for the most recent Doctor Who, revealed some tidbits of what was to occur during a recent interview with NPR’s Morning Edition.

Asked about hints for Sherlock season 2, Moffat dropped the following enigmatic answer:

“The critical words, I’d say, would be: Adler, Hound, Reichenbach.”

Now for those of you who aren’t Sherlock Holmes buffs (which I am certainly not), here is some information as to what Stephen Moffat is referring to:

Adler – this refers to Irene Adler, a Sherlockian Character from the story “A Scandal in Bohemia” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. She is considered to be his “love interest” although there is some debate. Rachel McAdams played her character in the recent theatrical version of Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr.

Hound – this refers to The Hound of the Baskervilles, one of the four crime novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle featuring our beloved detective. The novel tells the story of an attempted murder inspired by the legend of a mythical hound.

Reichenbach – this refers to the place where Holmes and Moriarty go head to head in a final battle.

Ok, I am totally excited about this upcoming season of Sherlock which may feature romance, mystery and an epic battle. What do you guys think? Is it going to be awesome? Share your thoughts below.
