LIE TO ME “The Royal We” Review

Lie To Me "The Royal We" Review

LIE TO ME “The Royal We” Season 3 Episode 2 – Cal is having a rough go trying to write his second book in this episode. He’s looking for any sort of distraction and decides to barge his way into a beauty pageant that Foster was supposed to work alone. The Lightman Group was hired after some other pageants had some trouble and Cal immediately gets a reading on one of the contestants. When the girl accuses a man of molesting her, Cal and Foster try to find out more but the more they dig into what happened, the stranger the story gets.

It turns out that the girl is what Cal likes to call an “emotional vampire”. She came on to the man and when he turned her down, she attacked him so that he’d have to fight back and cause the bruises she uses as proof. She not only enjoyed seeing him suffer after the accusation, she also enjoys her mother’s pain at seeing her dear daughter molested. The girl really just wants to quit the pageants and all the pressure her mother has put on her and causing pain was her way of getting back. When Cal reveals the truth and takes that all away, the girl considers ending it all but Cal shows her how to stand up to her mom and quit doing pageants instead.

My favorite bits…

The way Cal tossed his arms in the air in a “ta da” motion after Emily read “Let there be Lightman”.

The way Cal hollers “Oi!” whenever he wants someone’s attention.

This line from Cal: “You just rang a bell you can’t un-ring”.

Cal stealing a bag of chips and claiming it tastes better and then the rest of the conversation with the girl taking place with his arm in the vending machine.

Cal sniffing his laptop and asking if Loker had been in his office. LOL.

Being completely floored when Cal told Torres the best way to create a disturbed personality was with constant criticism and lack of affection and she pointed out that was
how he was treating Loker. Whoa, that’s interesting.

The way Cal demanded his pen from Loker.

Cal pulling back the curtain in the hospital after Megan played her little act and then threatened him.

The way Megan described what life was like with her mom and how, if she had one hair out of place, her mom would go to bed for days and not even bother to make food or talk. It was chilling and a damn good performance by the actress. All of it done with her standing in angel wings made it even more eerie.

Cal telling the mom to knock it off when she tried to protest when her daughter said she wanted to quit doing pageants.

The look Cal gave Foster when he said he’d gone into her office looking for someone to play with. Loved him playing with the soccer ball.

Torres telling Loker that Cal said he was a “big help” with the case.

Emily being able to tell when her dad has had a bad day and getting him to admit that he spoke ill of his mother.

Emily writing the forward to her father’s book being the catalyst he needed to get it started and doing so by saying he understands very little, least of all the people closest to him.

Yes! This episode of Lie To Me has made me a believer in all things Lightman again. Heck, I’m even ready to run out and get a shirt that says “Let There Be Lightman” on it, I’m so excited. The Loker storyline that was confusing the heck out of me appears to be going in a direction I’m very excited about, as I for one would love to see him out there on the streets doing what Cal does. Plus at the very end there we got the tiniest glimpse into Cal and some insecurity that he’s not letting anyone see. Good stuff and I can’t wait for more.

What did you think of the episode? Got any favorite bits or least favorite bits of your own? I’d love to hear from you!
