Billy Ray Cyrus To Star In Hallmark’s CHRISTMAS IN CANAAN Sequel

The Hallmark Channel’s made-for-TV movie Christmas in Canaan was recently named “Best Show or Series: Family Friendly” at the 3rd annual CableFAX Program Awards gala luncheon in NYC. The network also recently announced that Billy Ray Cyrus has signed on to star in the sequel which will premiere in 2011. Christmas in Canaan was the second highest-rated Hallmark Channel Original Movie for 2009.

Christmas in Canaan stars Billy Ray Cyrus as Daniel Burton, a farmer in Canaan, TX, during the civil rights movement who forces his young son to spend time with his black classmate, leading to an unexpected friendship. As the years pass and racial tensions in their town build, an unforgettable Christmas will teach the boys the importance of hope and the true meaning of family.

Did anyone else watch Christmas in Canaan last year? My mom and I both watched it and we thought it was one of the better made-for-TV Christmas movies out there. The civil rights aspect of the story was interesting and Billy Ray Cyrus actually was pretty good too, so I think this award is well deserved.
