90210 “Senior Year Baby” Review (Season 3 Premiere)

Senior Year, Baby

The Season 3 Premiere of 90210 arrived and the Beverly Hills teens find themselves at the top of the school, finally as seniors. The summer has come and gone and we find in that space of time Annie has confessed to her hit and run and done her time under house arrest. Adrianna has been touring with Javier, who hasn’t given up on trying to sleep with her even though she is still seeing Naveed. Dixon and Annie watched the destruction of their parents’ marriage which resulted in Dixon having to leave Australia and Ivy, early. Naomi is left reeling from the actual rape by Mr. Connor as opposed to the one that she falsely accused him of last season. Everyone is eager to move on to their senior advisors, their internships, their professional tennis gigs, and their possible music careers. Of course, nothing ever goes that smoothly for the kids of 90210.

As soon as school starts, a major earthquake hits leaving everyone scrambling for cover and Mr. Connor attempting to protect Naomi. However, the way he grabs her and holds her only brings flashbacks of the rape from last season. After completely freaking out, Mr. Connor warns her not to spread anymore “lies.” Naomi responds by calling the police to report the rape. The problem, of course, is that there was never a rape kit done, Naomi didn’t tell anyone and so much time has passed. Naomi doesn’t like the person she has become and goes to great lengths to convince herself, and others, that she hasn’t changed at all. The highlights include a drunken strip tease for three random boys and basically flinging herself at Teddy. On top of all of that, Naomi is broke and has been living out of a seedy motel exchanging rent for used shoes and purses while spinning tales of her summer in Mexico. Add in a special guest spot for the Kardashian sisters and you can see just how low Naomi has gone.

Not doing much better is Adrianna. Sure she has been touring with Javier, but according to him her original song is the only one of his that has not made it into the top ten. There is a replacement girl on the horizon that writes good songs, is younger, prettier and thinner. As fate would have it, Javier’s teasing and needling of Adrianna is unexpectedly cut short and Adrianna seizes the opportunity to steal the songs and pass them off as her own. Without them, her music career is pretty much tanked as even Laurel admits that the “fire” behind her has faded. Naveed, being the supportive boyfriend, tells her how wonderful her new songs are, better than her old ones. You know, the ones she actually wrote.

Annie and Liam, although having grown somewhat close last year, have had a falling out over the summer when Annie did not bother to contact him at all. Not sure why she didn’t considering she had nothing better to do being under house arrest and all. Liam, for as tough as he acts, is actually a softie and ends up driving Annie to an important interview for an internship set up by her new senior advisor, Mr. Mathews, who is still reeling from his own personal news that he might be a father. A makeout session even occurs afterward in the parking lot. And although Annie tanks the interview with diarhhea of the mouth and a whole lot of TMI, she somehow lands the internship. I could have written that before it happened. In fact, I did. However, I did not count on the fact that the internship would have an insidious side to it. Wonder what the new boss thinks Annie is desperate enough to do?

Things were going really well for Teddy and Silver until Teddy fell victim to the earthquake. Now his dreams of pro tennis may be dashed and he has decided to turn to liquor to make it all feel better. Silver is not really a fan seeing as how her mother was a major alcoholic and it caused a huge drift between them. Oh, and there is also the thing about seeing Naomi half dressed jumping into Teddy’s arms that may also cause her some alarm. I predict that Teddy is just going to keep heading in a downward spiral of self loathing and self medicating without the demands of training and tennis matches to reel him in. How long until Silver decides she does not want to be involved with Teddy? Or will it be Teddy that leaves her for another?

That leaves us with Dixon and Ivy. Ivy is back from Australia, but brings with her an Oscar. Well, actually Oscar has been staying with her mother, Laurel, for the summer. Dixon doesn’t like Oscar and the way he looks at Ivy. Ivy insists they are just childhood friends, however she then has a hot and heavy dream about him. Later, Oscar attempts to proposition Ivy and when she shoots him down, goes back to Laurel where he has been apparently spending his summer nights. Is there enough sex on this show? I didn’t think so.

So for the most part we are caught up on the lives of our Beverly Hills clan. What did you think of the season opener of 90210? Did it answer your questions from last season? What are your thoughts on the pairings? Who would you like to see together and who would thrill you if they just separated? I love the Liam and Annie pairing and think it is rather lame for Annie to cite Naomi as a reason she can’t see him. This is high school after all! Everyone dates everyone else. Tell us what you think about the season premiere of 90210 in the comments below.
