NIKITA (CW) “Pilot” Advance Review

Nikita (CW) Pilot
Tonight, Thursday September 9, the CW premieres its new series and reimagining of La Femme Nikita, simply called NIKITA starring Maggie Q in the title character.

In this new version, Nikita, who was trained as a spy and assassin by a U.S. agency called Division, has been in hiding for three years after Division betrayed her. Now she is back with a vengeance and is bent on taking Division down. The only problem is, her former lover and handler, Michael (Shane West) still works at Division, which makes things a little more complicated. As for Division, it is busy training new recruits, one of which is Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca), whom we meet in the first episode.

So how good is this new version? It’s pretty good. The action is great and the pilot sets up an unexpected storyline that will make you want to come back. That said, does it live up to the original series? I have to say no. Maybe it’s because I’m such a huge fan of La Femme Nikita, but this new version is missing the darkness that I loved so much.

But if we put the original series aside, Nikita is a strong new contender this Fall. Was I blown away by it? No. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely. In fact I more than enjoyed it since it’s pretty much getting a season pass from me. So if you’re looking for some action (including a girl fighting in a bikini and other sexy outfits) and good entertainment, make sure you watch Nikita tonight, Thursday September 9 at 9pm on The CW.
