LAW & ORDER: SVU Goes Hollywood to Help Law & Order: LA

NBC is looking to give new Law & Order: LA a boost by staging a crossover with LAW & ORDER: SVU. TV Guide reports that Det. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) spends some time in Los Angeles during the September 29 episode of SVU. Not so coincidentally, LO: LA premieres that night at 10pm/9 central.

Benson is involved in the investigation of a rape survivor’s (Jennifer Love Hewitt) whose rape kit from several years before was ignored by police and her inquiries take her to Los Angeles where she teams up with Detective Rex Winters (Skeet Ulrich).

The episode’s plot was inspired by the story a real rape survivor shared at one of Hargitay’s fundraisers for her Joyful Heart Foundation. Hargitay told TV Guide, “I’m so honored that the SVU writers see the value in telling this story, and it’s very cool how they’re weaving our two shows together.”

Hargitay also told TV Guide that she would love to do more LO: LA. “I’m born and raised in L. A., so I’m definitely up for doing more,” she said. “I go where the work is. My L.A. friends all want me to be on LO: LA.” Ulrich chimed in, “We could use an experienced detective. That would be fantastic.”

The twelfth season of Law & Order: SVU premieres on Wednesday, September 22 at 9pm/8 central. You can find all the fall premiere dates and times here.
