Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC)Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC) – 8pm

Starts September 26

Synopsis: As the iconic “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” returns for an eighth season, deserving families in need of a newly rebuilt and decorated home will not be the only ones undergoing a major renovation. The “Extreme Makeover” team goes through a makeover of its own as three new designers are added to the mix. In addition, viewers will see twists and surprises in special, themed episodes and unique ways that design team leader Ty Pennington will deliver his traditional morning wakeup call. The show will also extend its reach to include whole communities in making dreams come true.
Joining the series for Season 8 will be Leigh Anne Tuohy (a successful interior decorator, best known for being portrayed by Sandra Bullock in 2010’s Oscar-winning film, “The Blind Side”), Xzibit (a tireless performer in music, film and television) and Jillian Harris (a successful designer for restaurants, residences, furniture and fashion who previously was featured as “The Bachelorette” in Season 5). All three were “Get on the Bus” celebrity volunteers during Season 7 and were so incredibly moved by their experiences that they asked to be a part of the design team.
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” continues to unite the people selected with their favorite entertainers, athletes, politicians and role models. Participants this season will include Cedric the Entertainer, Christie Brinkley, Kristen Chenoweth, Derek Hough, Shaquille O’Neal, Katy Perry, Raven-Symoné and the kids from “Modern Family.”
Special themed shows will include an innovative tears-free episode featuring top comedians, guaranteeing that the audience will be laughing instead of crying throughout the episode. Another, themed “New York! New York!,” will feature a Broadway-like production with the entire blue shirt crew and design team singing and dancing while the house is being demolished. Also, the show ventures into new territory by doing a different kind of “door knock”: In one instance, a family discovers they’re the latest recipients of a new home while surrounded by thousands of cheering fans at Yankee Stadium.
In addition to rebuilding homes, the EMHE design team will be rebuilding other structures, including a school for promising youth in Baltimore, Maryland. Viewers and fans may notice that some of the homes may not be as extreme in size as in the past, yet all of the builds will continue to be “extreme” when it comes to innovation, quality and being environmentally friendly.
Ty Pennington leads up the team of designers in a race against the clock to turn people’s wildest dreams into reality. Each episode is self-contained and features a project that would ordinarily take at least four months to achieve, involving a team of designers, contractors and several hundred volunteer workers who all have just seven days to totally rebuild and decorate an entire house — every single room, plus the exterior and landscaping. The result should be a decorator’s delight, if it can be done in time.

Boardwalk Empire (HBO)Boardwalk Empire (HBO) – 9pm DTV

Starts September 19

Synopsis: America in 1920: The Great War was over, Wall Street was about to boom and everything was for sale, even the World Series. It was a time of change when women got the vote, broadcast radio began and young people ruled the world.

On the beach in southern New Jersey sat Atlantic City, a spectacular resort known as “The World’s Playground,” a place where the rules didn’t apply. Massive hotels lined its famous Boardwalk, which featured nightclubs, amusement piers and entertainment that rivaled Broadway. For a few dollars, a working man could get away and live like a king – legally or illegally.

The undisputed ruler of Atlantic City was the town’s treasurer, Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, a political fixer and backroom dealer who was equal parts politician and gangster and equally comfortable in either role. Because of its strategic location on the seaboard, the town was a hub of activity for rum-runners, minutes from Philadelphia, hours from New York City and less than a day’s drive from Chicago. And Nucky Thompson took full advantage.

Along with his brother Elias, who was the town’s sheriff, and a crew of ward bosses and local thugs, Nucky carved out a niche for himself as the man to see for any illegal alcohol. He was an equal-opportunity gangster, doing business with Arnold Rothstein, Big Jim Colosimo, “Lucky” Luciano, and Al Capone.

As the series begins, Jimmy Darmody, Nucky’s former protégé and driver, returns home from the Great War, eager to get ahead and reclaim his rightful place in Nucky’s organization. But when Jimmy feels things aren’t moving quickly enough, he takes matters into his own hands, forming a deadly alliance with some associates of Nucky’s that sets the Feds, led by Agent Van Alden, on his mentor’s tail. Complicating matters further is Nucky’s burgeoning relationship with Margaret Schroeder a woman in an abusive marriage whom he tries to help out.

Cast: Steve Buscemi (Enoch “Nucky” Thompson), Shea Whigham (Elias), Michael Stuhlbarg (Arnold Rothstein), Frank Crudele (Big Jim Colosimo), Vincent Piazza (“Lucky” Luciano), Stephen Graham (Al Capone), Michael Pitt (Jimmy Darmody), Michael Shannon (Agent Van Alden), Kelly Macdonald (Margaret Schroeder), Michael Kenneth Williams (Chalky White), Gretchen Mol (Gillian), Dabney Coleman (The Commodore), Paz de la Huerta (Lucy).

LOIS (Alex Borstein) is Peter’s loving wife, a former Miss Teen Rhode Island who rules the roost but is one step away from a nervous breakdown. Then there are their kids: frumpy 17-year-old MEG (Mila Kunis), the family’s punching bag; 13-year-old CHRIS (Seth Green), a kid who doesn’t understand girls, much less the evil monkey who recently emerged from his closet; and 1-year-old STEWIE (MacFarlane), a diabolically clever baby whose burgeoning sexuality is very much a work in progress. Rounding out the Griffin household is BRIAN (MacFarlane), the family dog, a member of Mensa with a penchant for dry martinis and dumb blondes.
During this season, the Griffins and fellow Quahog residents attend a fancy dinner party and become embroiled in a classic “whodunit” murder mystery, Lois becomes a local sports hero and Stewie works for Brian as his literary manager. American Dad (FOX)American Dad (FOX) – 9:30pm

Starts October 3

Synopsis: The animated series follows staunch GOP supporter and CIA agent STAN SMITH and the misadventures of his unconventional family in Langley Falls, VA.

Stan’s ditzy wife, FRANCINE, has an unfaltering loyalty that allows her to turn a blind eye toward Stan’s unabashed arrogance. Meanwhile, Stan constantly butts heads with his 18-year-old daughter and left-wing activist, HAYLEY, who knows just how to push her father’s buttons whether it’s by helping the homeless, demanding women’s rights or supporting gun control. Hayley’s 14-year-old brother is the geeky yet cocky STEVE, a kid who spends his time playing Dungeons & Dragons and obsessing about the opposite sex.
The Smith cabinet is rounded out by two rather unconventional members. There’s the selfish and sarcastic space alien, ROGER, who lives in the attic and loves to play dress-up; and KLAUS, an attention-starved goldfish with the brain of a German guy who is always willing to vocalize his opinions regardless of whether anyone is listening.

This eccentric family full of radically different personalities is just trying to figure out how to love and trust one another in a bi-partisan way. And with a guy like Stan in charge of national security, it’s guaranteed to be one hilarious ride.

The comedy carries on this season as the series prepares to celebrate its 100th episode with an unexpected Smith family wedding. Later in the season, Francine sees a hypnotherapist to remember elements of her repressed past, Roger and Stan open competing restaurants and Stan and Francine battle it out over parental control.
