LIE TO ME “Darkness and Light” Review

LIE TO ME Darkness and Light Review

Cal and Foster finally get a chance to get down and dirty in tonight’s episode of LIE TO ME called “Darkness and Light”. Well, sort of. In order to get more information about a missing girl last seen acting in adult films, the two of them visit the production company as a couple looking to experiment with one of the girls. As if a case like this wouldn’t be difficult enough for Cal, Emily is observing his work at the same time. He keeps her at arm’s length as much as he can but, still ends up discussing more with her than I’m sure he liked.

Emily thinks she wants to know all about what her father does and that she can handle it, always acting the grown-up. When things hit a little close to home and she sees the results of such a hard life on a friend, she wonders if it’s not as easy as she thought. The girl, Molly, ran away because she remembers her parents fighting the night that her mother died and thinks her father was to blame. But it turns out that it was Molly’s toys that caused the accident and to protect Molly from pain they don’t think she can handle, they invent an easier truth and tell her it was her younger sister’s toys.

Meanwhile, in a nice bit of sleight of hand, it’s not Foster and Cal who get together in this episode, it’s Eli and Torres. Cal has them both competing for the same position when the two of them decide to stop fighting and head out for drinks instead.. and end up doing a bit more than drinking.

My favorite bits…

Yeah I know we saw it in the preview, but I still couldn’t help but to giggle like a little schoolgirl when Cal and Gillian started making out.

This bit:
Cal: “Who said the FBI were just a bunch of puppets?”
Emily: “Uh, that would be you Dad.” (starts to get up)
Cal: “Down.” (pushes her back into chair)

This line from Cal: “Don’t get clever alright?….. not in them shoes.”

The incredibly sweet way Cal kept calling Molly “darling”.

Feeling so sad when Molly referred to herself as “toxic” because she fund out she was HIV positive. How awful for a young girl to feel that way about herself.

Eli and Torres playing “two truths and a lie”. Okay that game takes on a whole new meaning when being played by two people who find liars for a living.

Cal admitting that he still blames himself for his mother’s suicide.

Reynolds and Cal sounding like a comedy toupe in the middle of a very dramatic interrogation:
Reynolds: “Thank you for this.”
Lee: “For what?”
Cal: “Being as dumb as you look.”

Cal’s little “itchy dance” for the doctor.

Cal telling Emily that even though it might save a family, he thinks that telling a lie is not a good thing.

So after giving us some hints that Foster and Cal might be heading towards the more-than-friends area, Lie To Me instead had Eli and Torres hook up romantically. After not one clue that this was coming, I’m still reeling a bit from it and haven’t decided whether I like them as a couple or not. I think I need to see what happens next or at least sleep on it.. erm, no pun intended?
