COVERT AFFAIRS “In The Light” Review

COVERT AFFAIRS "In The Light" Review

Annie is sent to enlist the help of a former CIA agent to catch an arms dealer in this episode of COVERT AFFAIRS, called “In The Light”. Eriq La Salle plays agent Christopher McAuley, a man who wants nothing to do with the Agency after the woman he loved was killed on an op. But when the man who’s responsible for her death comes back under the CIA’s radar, he agrees to help in order to get close enough to kill Hasaan Waleed himself.

While some people want Hasaan captured and others want him dead, Jai’s father, the former Director of Clandestine Services, warns Arthur that there’s more behind the story. Turns out that Hasaan used to be an asset and used funds and weapons he got from the CIA to build a terrorist cell. So they want Hasaan taken alive, and quietly. Annie manages to keep McAuley from killing him but unfortunately not before Ben shows up and does it instead. He is spotted by Jar but manages to barely get away without being seen by Annie. Which leaves us wondering who exactly Ben is and who is he working for?

My favorite bits…

Auggie saying that he could actually hear Annie frowning.

Jai walking up just in time to hear Auggie’s comment about his father, but not before he got Annie’s stiletto in his shin.

Being happy to see that apparently CIA training also includes basic car maintenance when Annie was able to change her own tire.

Finding it interesting that Annie once spoke longingly of wanting to be in charge of her own destiny and now as an operative for the CIA, she is constantly being told where to go and what to do and bouncing from place to place. Then again, I would also say she is very much in charge of her destiny.

Annie informing Auggie that she was shooting him a dirty look. When a blind guy is being a smartass I guess that’s the only way to let him know you’re displeased.

Annie and Auggie discussing the concept of the greater good, should Annie use “dirty” tactics to get info she needs to help solve big cases or not. I don’t envy her that decision.

McAuley correctly guessing about the bracelet on Annie’s wrist after she correctly guessed about his fishing hat.

McAuley announcing out of the blue to Jai that his father was an asshole.

Jai looking very happy to find out that Annie had looked up his file.

Totally not trusting McAuley when he came back with the case and then went off to the bathroom.. aha! I was right!

The totally badass and cool way that Ben got off the ship and then the resultant footchase between he and Jai. I cannot believe that Annie never spotted Ben.

Arthur telling Joan the truth about Hasaan.

Seeing that Ben is apparently still just as hung up on Annie and she is on him.

An exciting episode of Covert Affairs, that is also bringing the story ever closer to what is going on with Ben and what must have forced him to let Annie go. I can’t wait to see where this storyline goes.
